hi robbo was worried where you had stopped . was glad to see you had got it further down and off the road, would not have liked to have left you were you were , that's why I went back for the tow rope, so its the fuel pump fubard not the tank leaking, a easier less costly fix ?! its a hotrod it going to break down LOL hope t see you out next week end deano

Fallen out with the Zephyr at the moment, after breaking down on the way to Silcoates & then again after fitting a new fuel pump last week! Fitted the new pump & new regulator, blew all the fuel lines through, to make sure there were no blockages & thought I'd sorted it. Nope - still doing the same. It'll run fine for 15-20 mins, then fuel supply dries up & it cuts out. I think I've sussed it out now though - It seems to be since I filled the tank right up, before setting off for Silcoates. If I'm right, I'm getting a vacuum in the tank after 15-20 mins driving. Cos the tank's filled right up, the vent pipe is now below the level of the fuel in the tank (& it doesn't have a vented cap either). Probably wasn't an issue with the original engine, but I reckon with the big V8 sucking fuel at a rate of knots, there's not enough air in the tank to replace the fuel getting pumped out & once it's vac'ing up, it can't pump any more fuel through! Sounds feasible? Short term, I'm gonna have to drain some fuel out, to get the level back below the vent pipe & possibly drill a vent hole in the cap too. If that fixes the problem, then I'll know for definite it's a vacuum problem & I might look at fitting a race fuel cell in the boot, with proper (big) outlets & vents. Oh, & a patch of filler has bled through on the newly painted roof, so that's got to go back for repainting! Not happy, need to find some new enthusiasm & crack on, or I'm not gonna make it out anywhere this summer! Cheers, Robbo

Already got a regulator which is adjusted to correct pressure for the carb. Pretty sure it's vacuum in the tank - I'll keep you posted when I next get a chance to work on it.
Cheers, Robbo

Just to let you all know - I'm still alive! Just haven't had much time to work on the Zephyr lately - been mentally busy at work & training hard for my 2nd Dan in Taekwondo (which I passed last week) Off to Italy tomorrow for a week, so hopefully I'll be back refreshed & ready to crack on with some renewed enthusiasm! Cheers, Robbo

Not got the Zephyr back yet! Bought myself a Harley Sportster, which I'm going to be turning into a retro bobber, so the Zephyr's taken a bit of a back seat for now. But I WILL get it out for a run this summer... if it kills me!
Cheers, Robbo

At this rate I'm more likely to be out on the Harley than in the Zephyr! Gearbox swap's turned out to be not as straightforward as it looked.

Long awaited update! Got the Zephyr back with the new box in & it drives much better now! Still been having the random cutting out, loosing fuel supply, so I bit the bullet & ordered a swanky 12 gal ally race tank. Fitted that at the weekend (mounted in the boot), plumbed it in with new fuel hoses & relocated the fuel pump. All seemed ok, so tonight I went & put 30 quid's worth in & took it for a spin - down the mad mile to Wakey & back & all seems to be good now! I was pretty sure it must have been an issue with the old tank, cos that's the only bit of the fuel system I haven't changed! Yes, I have put it up for sale, but I'm not in a rush & am determined to get a couple of runs out in it before it goes anywhere! So hopefully I'll see you all soon! Cheers, Robbo
