Well, the Pop's gone off to Kent & I finally got some transport sorted out to collect the Zeph while I'm off work next week, so I thought I'd start a new thread. First job will be to get it in to DC to get the paintwork finished off, so all the glass & trim can be fitted. Then drop the back end, maybe fit some bigger rims & get it MOT'd! I'm really fancying getting some flake on there - the roof (which needs painting anyway) & possibly a flame job ;D At the minute, I'm leaning towards some kind of blue for the flake. Anyway, here's a couple of starter pics, until I get it up here. Engine chrome needs a clean ;D

Orig Post on 30 July 2013 Well it arrived today, no problems (apart from the obligatory flat battery!), so had it dropped off at my mates garage to do a bit of fettling before it goes off to DC for the paintwork finishing. Had a real good look over it up on the ramps, so managed to check everything properly. A couple of minor oil leaks & a leaking rear hub seal (which looks a lot easier to fix than the ones on the Pop!). Rear brakes & handbrake need setting up properly & it's missing a lower flywheel cover plate. Other than that, all seems good. Charged the battery & got it fired up - sounds fapping awesome! Could probably do with some better exhausts making up at some point - I'm thinking maybe side exit or side pipes . Exhaust at the minute are stock Mustang ones, that have been chopped about to fit. I have to say, having had a proper look over it now, the bodywork is even better than I remember! It's had some serious amount of work & looks super straight. No photos yet - it's a bit filthy & the windows are wrapped in cling film - in case of showers! Fingers crossed, it won't be too many weeks before its on the road. Cheers, Robbo

Don't really want to go back to work next week Got all the glass & trim fitted to one side - bit like Krypton Factor that was! but it's starting to look more like a car now. Unfortunately, I'm gonna need some more window channel to finish the other side. Hopefully I should get the new hub seal tomorrow, so I can put the axle back together & get it off the ramp at last! Might take some this weekend, now it's taking shape ;D Had another cracking day today - all the glass is now in & all the window trim. Could do with a few new bits of window channel, but what I have will do for now. Also need to order some new door rubbers. Got the new seal for the axle (thanks to Rodley Motors), so that's in & the axle's all back together ;D Tomorrow I need to adjust the brakes & handbrake & it should hopefully be back on the ground, on all 4 wheels! Should be ready for paint soon - can't wait! Cheers, Robbo robbo149 N.H.R.C Member Post by robbo149 on Aug 3, 2013 at 5:10pmAnother great day in the workshop today! Things are escalating a bit now though! We've decided it's not worth rushing it, seeing as it's such a nice motor - it deserves doing reyt! So, I'm now trying to get as much done while it's on the ramps & I've got the use of professional gear. Today I've done a bit of fabricating - the convoluted handbrake cable routing was stopping it from working properly, so I've made some new brackets to straighten out the cables. Well chuffed! that's the first bit of fabrication I've done since metalwork at school! The plan is also to try & make up a cable system for the gear selector - at the minute it's operated from the original column change via a bit of a 'Heath Robinson' arrangement of rods & levers & is a bit vague & baggy. We're also thinking of making up a new exhaust system too! - the current one is a bit of a bodged up original Mustang one & is in the way of a lot of things & catching here & there. I'm thinking a couple of cherry bomb silencers with side exit pipes, like I had on my Consul - that should have the 302 sounding mean! Tomorrow - finishing off the handbrake cable brackets & maybe a clean out & paint the floors ready for the new carpets. Happy days! ;D Cheers, Robbo Russ D Moderator + Post by Russ D on Aug 3, 2013 at 7:51pmChuffed for ya Robbo not only does it sound like youre well into it but its coming on nicely. When you planning a debut? robbo149 N.H.R.C Member Post by robbo149 on Aug 4, 2013 at 2:05pmThink it's gonna be a few weeks yet Russ - couple more weekends in the workshop before it goes off for paint, so probably another couple of weeks there. Gonna leave the interior till winter, just clean up what's in for now (headlining, dash & seats), gonna paint the floor & maybe fit the carpets too.Did a bit more this morning - finished off the handbrake cable brackets & got the cable set up. Seems to work pretty well now - another job to tick off the list! ;D Also did a few bits of painting underneath, while it's still up in the ramps. Still to do while it's in the workshop - sort a new gear shift mechanism & fabricate some new exhausts. We had a play with the column change linkage this morning & experimented with a cable shift, but it's looking like it would be a bit of a ball ache to get it working properly from the column. So I think the best plan now is gonna be to fit a floor shifter, that should simplify things a whole lot! Back to work tomorrow, after my week off, so probably won't get any more done till next weekend now Ah well, I've had a good week on it & made good progress. Cheers, Robbo

Post by robbo149 on Aug 10, 2013 at 5:18pmHad another good couple of hours in the workshop this morning. Got the old exhausts off, took out the seats & cut the hole in the floor for the shifter. I've got an old chrome T shifter from a Granada (same as I had in my Consul) - that should look nice when installed. While the exhausts were off, I fired it up to see what it sounded like, to get an idea if how it's going to sound with the side exit pipes. It sounded bloody brilliant - just how a V8 should sound! Had to order a shift shaft seal from the States too, for the side of the gearbox, as it's leaking ATF quite badly - quite common on C4s apparently? Funny how one job turns into three isn't it? Couple more pics from this morning - not got much more done, what with work getting in the way! Exhausts are almost done - just need welds & mounts tidying up. At the min they've got rolled ends on, but I might cut them off flush with the sills. Put a bit of juice in & fired it up with the new exhausts on (tank was pretty much empty) - loving the noise them Cherry Bombs make! The neighbours are gonna love me! What was I saying about one job turning into three?! - When we had it running, water started pi$$ing out of the heater box , so this morning's job ended up being taking that apart to find the leak - looks like it was a hose inside the heater box, so not too bad. Repaired & back together now & seems ok. Matrix doesn't look to clever though, so I'll have to keep an eye on that, or maybe just disconnect the heater all together. Did have time to get it back on the lift & remove the prop though. Here's a pic of the gearbox yoke - the thin lighter band (next to the chalk mark) shows how much was actually in the gearbox (about an inch & a half). Total length of the shaft is about 4 - 4 1/2 inches, so it looks like the prop tube could do with been about an inch longer maybe? - what do you guys think? Got a break now for a week & a bit before I can do any more (another holiday!), but gonna try & drop the prop off on Monday, so it's ready for when I get back. Cheers, Robbo

Done a bit more this morning (with a hangover!) - bumped into Deano in Wakey last night, while I was out with some mates . Got the prop refitted & it fits in much better now. I had about 50mm added, so no chance of it popping out now! While I was doing that I also replaced the rear gearbox seal - it was leaking a bit, so thought I might as well while the prop was out. Also fitted some neater exhaust brackets for the side exit pipes & marked them up, ready to cut back at an angle, flush with the sills. A couple more jobs to tick off the list Cheers, Robbo

Back to it after hols & made a bit of progress this week. Didn't have use of the ramp last weekend, so did a few other bits & bobs - plumbed in the windscreen washers, fitted the jets & sorted the wiper spindles ready for MOT time, just the wiper arms to fit now. While all the seats etc are out I also painted the floors inside. Back on the ramps today, we got the floor shifter fitted & fabricated the new linkage. Works a treat now! I'm well chuffed with it! Also had time to start tidying up the exhausts - cut the end off one side, flush with the sill & remounted it with a neater bracket - A birthday well spent today! Fingers crossed, could be ready for MOT next week! Then it's off for paintwork Cheers, Robbo

Cheers, Robbo robbo149 N.H.R.C Member Post by robbo149 on Sep 21, 2013 at 6:06pmBit more progress this morning. A bits & bobs sort of a day - been ticking off a few of the smaller jobs ready for MOT. Got the exhausts finished last week, also a nice, neat rubber gaiter fitted where the gear selector goes through the floor, so it's all good & water-tight So, this morning's jobs were: fitting the wiper arms & blades & getting them lined up, wiring up the horn, fitting the gear shift housing & indicator, & mounting the rear number plate. By my reckoning, that should be it now, ready for MOT next week! Still got plenty of other non-MOT stuff to do too - door & boot rubbers to fit, sound proofing & carpet, new window channel & a leaking gearbox selector shaft seal to sort. But that can all be done around the paintwork, once it's MOT'd & taxed. Getting closer now! BUT... the fail list was: One front sidelight / indicator not flashing - now sorted. A missing split pin from one of the steering arms - now sorted. No rear stop & tail lights - they were working last week! Anyway, we had a play round with the wiring & got the brake lights working, but still no tail lights . Think we'll have to run a new feed from the dash switch, cos there's no power getting through to the rear. Oh, & the heater matrix decided to pi$$ itself again, so I've bypassed it for now, till I can source a new one. Feeling positive though - so close now to getting it's first MOT in 4 years! A big milestone reached this week - MOT passed! Well chuffed! Got the last few electrical bits sorted last week (rewiring the rear lights) & adjusted up the handbrake cable & that was that! Could tax her & she'd be road legal now . However, there's still plenty to do before she'll be on the road for real. While it's still in the workshop, we're hopefully gonna drop the gearbox & get a couple of leaking seals sorted before the paintwork gets attention. Got a couple of hours in this morning, despite the miserable weather! Replaced the old window channels with the new I'd bought a while back & started measuring & cutting up the door & boot seals ready for fitting. But I did manage to take the box over to Wakey on Monday, (day off work, supposedly to do some tiling in the kitchen!), to get the leaking seals replaced. Also popped over to Rodley Motors to pick up a new crank seal, so the box can now go back in, hopefully this week. Not been completely plain sailing though (it never is!) - some of the bits I picked up in the States the other week for the box were wrong. Got a new sump & a filter & gasket kit for what I thought was a C4 box, but once the box was apart, everything was completely different! After Googling the serial number, it turns out I have a 'C5' box, which apparently, is a later version of the C4 used between 82 & 86. Looks like a C4, but has a different valve body inside, so needs a different filter & deeper sump! Also popped into town to the Post Office today, to get my free road tax, so technically we're road legal now! Not sure mate - depends if I'm out sat night! Might just see you lot there. robbo149 N.H.R.C Member Post by robbo149 on Nov 9, 2013 at 4:44pmAnother productive morning, although a bloody cold one! Ran out of door rubber last weekend so ordered some more from Woolies. Finally got all the door rubbers & boot rubber fitted today - what a faff that job's been! Did the first one with Sikaflex, which worked, but was very messy, so switched to good ol Evostick Timebond for the rest - much easier & a lot less messy! Rear doors were straightforward, but the 2 fronts needed a bit of adjusting on the hinges & catches to get them to shut right, just about there now though . Took me 3 goes to get the boot rubber right - couldn't work out how it went! But we're all rubbered up now! Hopefully the box is going back in on Monday, then it can come home so I can get started on the big cleanup, ready for paint Cheers, Robbo
