I am looking for advice on what is needed to change the timing cover on the Rover engine I have.
I am wanting to fit a short nose water pump and the higher volume oil pump. I just need pointing in the right direction before I throw £500 at it and get it wrong!!

DC first off on the oil pump, make sure the drive fits the Dizzy which ever you are running, both ends come in both male and female, just sayin- been there. Second three different covers i think, depends on pump location as fixing holes differ slightly, some aftermarket covers dont have the mount holes either drilled out or not there, get a gasket that fits block and match it to back of cover your getting either physically or by picture, again bolt sets and and lengths can differ, been there too! Keep your old ones - bolts in order, till you fix on pump to cover and cover to eng. least you can buy a new bolt if cast bolt housing on cover is shallower and the bolt doesnt nip up. ie too long, ........ visited that one too!!!! I guess theres more dependant on long or short nose water pump, but these are the bits that got me. Hope that helps a bit.

Got my short P6 water pump from Rimmers for about £75, not sure if it will fit SD1 or later covers. I use a sandwich plate with longer gears and hp spring in the oil pump. You can get these kits to fit P6 or SD1 distributors (p6 oil pump shaft has female end and SD1 has male end). The distrutor end are available for both models and are easily changed. Also heard (may not be true) that some distributors were different lengths. Don't forget you might need to change engine pulley and alternator bracket. Get some gaskets as Russ said to make sure the pump/housing/block fit. water pump link
