hi right , try again, so my Y, i will start at the begining when i first got about 1984-85 ( i am crap at dates) , bought as a rolling shell only from denby dale , apparently build was started by ray young & some one else ?, it came with k member chassis, v6 engine , manual box, a mk 1 e type axle with just a body shell on , thats it. it was initially constructed at a garage in batley while i was working there. i initially tried to restore as a 4 door but could not find anyone to remake the missing wooden frames , so decided to weld the back doors on, then the covering of the rear side windows , just keeping the door window i had to buy some westbourne fenders for the rear arches and a back valence so images below as bought ( excuse size/ images they are taken on a old camera!!) yes this is a young ? me rubbing filler, cant believe still doing it 30 od years later to same car! original engine , blew every gasket when first started as left out to frezze before i got it stripped in filler, with rear doors welded shut new engine next installment , after paint/running deano

right 2 nd install ment, before i go onto, the paint & first drive the very first time, couple of archive photos 1 st me and dave cooper out side the garage in batley during the long hot summer of 1985, with me rubbing the f wings down out side ! and Dc shirtless cruising in the A Also , a article that was done on me in the local rags batley and dewsbury reporter in 1985 onto the painted & build up of the y the first time circa 1985/86 This grill, had rusty bars , so i replaced every single one with peices of straight steel brake pipe( bought in stright lengths) cut to lenght and welded in! last is two images of first run in yard, it was done and on the road two weeks later as i had to get out of the garage as i had handed my notice in!! all for now , next, bang , crash, wollop!! deano

so next , i think either it was 85 or 86, i am using the y for a daily !!could not afford to run two cars!i seem to rmember i been to PKs and on way home i decided to go through wakey center, heading out of wakefield just after the railway bridge westagte, the set of trafic lights after, goes to two lanes, i am in the inside lane , nearest kerb at the lights, a mk 2 escort pulls along side this is 86 so mk2 escort ont aold banger, so three kids in escort course he started reving edging forward , RACE ( i was young!) well i obliged, green go , left him for dead , BUT just past the smiths arms , where all the take aways are before the splt round the church, a BLOO*Y woman , does a u turn in a mk 4 cortina across both lanes to go back into wakefield, well i had no were to go !!i tried to go round the bck of her , buy only managed to half way round, BANG the Y hit her o/s/r wing, back end , with my O/S Fwing, grill, o/s/bonnet, o/s/f wheel, ripping the o/s/f suspension off !!! ending up in the central reservation, GUTTED, one thing the y never has had seat belts, and i got out with not so much as a scratch!! mid you i did brace for impact!! also, the guys in the escort stopped , they werent involved as they were behind me!!, but i was gratefull as later they provided me with a witness statement which helped me get paid out from the womans insurance ( i was on a traders policy at the time so only t/p f&t so would not have been paid out on mine) £1800.00 if i remember and i kept the car!! it was 86! i remember i got the replacement grill from london , and i collected it when we used to go to the chelsea cruise, me , cooper, kearsley, hindle ? we use to hire a car and go down and come back in the day!! so only images i can find of the accual damage. 1- crushed o/s wing, bonnet & grill 2-crushed o/s bonnet 3-OOPS image is upside down, the n/s f wing . it had pushed all the front end over !! 4- o/s/f wheel 5-o/s/f suspension ripped off! so on to repairs , i had sourced a new wing , grillm and HA front axle i am proud to say i repaired the bonnet ans it is still on the car today! ALSO it had moved the chassis across , so i had to sort this with lots of measuring , a big hammer . heat & a skim of filler to smooth it out, cant be too far out as its still ok today and does not crab/ and drives straight as a arrow! so all this WAS DONE IN A SMALL LOCK UP, to finish the job i took the car to dave coopers and painted it, and buit it up, and as i remember i pulled a all nighter, grabed a 2 hrs sleep in the car, as we were booked and WENT to the custom show in redcar in the north east the next day!!, take about young and no fear !! this is as it turned out in the first images that russ put up with a blacked out side window. engine bay interior ANd last but not lease , the person in the picture is the wife!! a lot younger with a 80s hair do!! polishing the y while i got changed ready to go to the redcar show the same moring, NOTE she does not polish the Y anymore after 30 od years the love has gone !! ;D more soon?

hi cheers DC, i would not have got what and were i have/am today with out your and Pks help and input, and thats going back to the 1600e days as well. oh and Bruntingthorpe is still along way in a hotrod ! ;D so breif update, year is 1997, we are at the last show of the season the hull "wanderers" show any body remember them shows ? at something hall/ any way this guys asks is the y for sale ? , " no" goes away , comes back, asks " if it was for sale how much would it be" "not for sale " long story short, guys takes my number, i come home with in 1 hr hes on the phone , really like your Y ,name your price !! long story short he buys it for £5500.00 a LOT of money to me in 1997!! in fact i used to to put a deposit down on my first house!! so i lose it for about 7 years, i used to visit him when i worked on the road in north cave and south cave near hull , them lose contact as you do, BUT one day in 2003 i buy a local autotrader and i see this add !! did not know it was for sale 100% pure chance, had to laugh at " fastiduous dean mitchell" like anybody of any significance would know who the hell i was !!. so i call him ! guess what , he refused to sell it to me !! sating i had sold it to him for over 5k and the advertised price was too low !! Calles for plan B-- i get a mate to call to buy it, he tells him , I (as original builder) am buying it back eh ! i am stood next to my mate as he tells him this ?? so when my mate hangs up i call and after a long discussion i buy it back for £3000.00 ! the car had suffered ! , while he had it ( could not do any work for himself) , was kept in a damp barn and to this day i am still dealing with micro blisters from damp ingress into the paint ( it was the 70s so it was celly paint!)the bonnet was on wrong although when i pointed this out he was adament it was not ! go figure, so i drove it home ( with jane DC!!!) and when we got it home & we were scratching like hell, turns out there was chickens, animals in the barn and car was infested with lice !!! nice Then this starts out as a quick referb, which has lasted 10 years 7 still going!! ;D two images , one of the advert when i first bought it , and the advert when i bought it back, then next more images of the rebuild to date hope you can read them

so, all bugs , wild life are dead ;D, , 2003 a quick referb is supposed to be done , but as all things hotrod , did not quite work out like that! thing is i had two young boys , and i got involved in kids football, as well as still palying myself, eventually running/ managing the kids team which took sats and sundays up most of the time, so work on the Y was slooow eventuall kids grew up and no more football, just their first cars to fix !! so work began, it became obvious it needed a bit nmore of a referb and one thing lead to another , nd before i knew it it was down to the shell & chassis!! also the other ting was the advent of hotrod suppliers . companies, where better new parts were available , instred of scrapyard parts ( used to live in scrapyards in the 70s, NO health & saftey!!) so following is progress over the years, i had decided to open up the rear side window to full lenght , incorperating the door window and back side window as it never looked right( later to change again!thanks DC for extra work) so it would look like a old 3 dr escort estates did with a long side window Also the otherthing i decided to do was convert it to auto which involved chopping about the center chassis, it was manual, but i found my feet had grown and i could not get between the brake and cluth pedal anymore !! , also i could not be bothered to change gear anymore , as i only wanted to cruise as speed is not this cars forte!
